Heroes of Newerth

Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is a Free-To-Play action multiplayer-online-battle-arena (MOBA) game developed by S2 Games. HoN has both real-time-strategy (RTS) and role playing game (RPG) aspects. The game is heavily based on Defence of the Ancients (DotA) a popular mod of Blizzard's Warcraft III Frozen Throne.

The games objective is to destroy your opponents base. There are two opposing sides: the Legion and the Hellbourne. Each team is placed on opposite sides of the map and have a base with defence towers. Units spawn from each side and attack the opposing side, these units are called 'Creeps'. (Creeps are non-controllable NPCs that spawn continously). You control a hero, where you attempt to push your 'Creeps' further into the opponents base to destroy it. You must also battle opposing heroes that will try to stop you. Your hero earns experience in battle, this is gained every time your hero kills enemy units, your hero can then level up to get stronger and learn new abilities, at the same time your hero will earn gold which can be used to buy new items to further strengthen your hero.

Heroes of Newerth is is multi-platform, so there are downloadable clients for Windows PCs, Mac OS X and Linux.
